If you haven't heard the episode of This American Life entitled "Unconditional Love" - you're missing out. The first story is about scientist Harry Harlow. He basically proves that you need love to survive. Kinda heavy sh*t I know. But the story makes me cry every time :-)
Frye really makes the best boots. I would love to have someone prove me wrong. But alas, I don't think it's possible. Check out my fav's from the current season:
These boots are causing me to catch some adult feelings... See all these and the rest of Frye's current collection here.
My birthday is coming up - I wear size 7 1/2. Just sayin...
Love you, mean it

Onceagain Calvin Klein finds itself in hot water. Recently, an ad depicting Lara Stone (the current face of the brand) and three young men in various states of undress was banned due to its sexually explicit nature. Namely, that the ad was promoting and condoning "gang rape" (dailymail). The ad was banned by the Advertising Standards Board in Australia.
The Board said: “[We] considered that whilst the act depicted could be consensual, the overall impact and most likely takeout is that the scene is suggestive of violence and rape. The Board considered that the image was demeaning to women by suggesting that she is a plaything of these men. It also demeans men by implying sexualized violence against women” (Earsucker).
I for one think this ad is a little explicit. Lara Stone obviously looks dispassionate about the event conspiring around her. Her eyes are looking off in the distance and her hands lay disinterestedly on her stomach. I think Refinery 29 put it best when they said "Did Australian officials take appropriate measures, or is this an overreaction?"
Maybe we should rethink the mission of our blog to something along the lines of our passion for food, fashion and radio.
I was perusing NPR, listening to my morning news and happened upon the the food section, and there they were:
pretty, huh?
Really this just reminded me that I haven't posted much about food. Lucky for me (and maybe for you) I'm going to have some of my evenings back and I'll be cooking during my prime cooking hours (Noon-4?) and soup season is upon us, and you know how much I love that!
The lady at Black Swan Books on Piedmont was kind enough to inform me that she just received a whole case of those tights. They were only 3 for $7 and a one-of-a-kind find I'm sure.

p.s. Barton, if I had had $1.12 more we would now be the proud owners of typeset necklaces. Alas...
This is seriously the best thing on the internet since, well, porno.
Isabella Rossellini's acclaimed series was created for Sundance Film Channel's website, using the internet as a forum for the lost art of short films. Rossellini feels drawn to the subject matter because of her own love of nature. In hopes to get people to care about the future of these creatures, she used subject matter people will listen to: sex. Now on season 3, in which Rossellini uses the show as a vehicle for messages about sustainable food.
I am gifting you some free music in honor of Monday.
White Sea's new e.p. This Frontier is headed up by Morgan Kibby. Kibby has been in and around the music scene in L.A. for years now. White Sea is the first project where she is "writing and producing" everything herself. Morgan was influenced by "ABBA, Donna Summer and the Bee Gees" for this e.p. Though I would have to say the music is a lot darker than any of the musical outfits just mentioned. It reminds me of Victorian disco ... using only ProTools and a smile.

Emily Barton is not our name. Don't call us that, or do, we're pretty laid back. We only want to add lovely pictures & ideas to your life and to ours subsequently.
We talk about fashion and being gluten-free/vegan. We think food & fashion should & can exist together in a perfect world. Like peanut butter & jelly. Hall & Oates. Chicken and the chicken container.
