Nobody Tells This to People Who Are Beginners

On the verge of one of the bigger birthdays in my short life, I am making a list, not on paper - more so in my head, of things that are important to me.  I couldn't have thought of this list a year ago, and I will probably keep adding to it as more time passes.  But, I just thought I'd share this (completely UNcheesy) little thing I found with you...  Enjoy.

The Only Magic

Lately, all I've wanted to do is draw.

It's been a passion of mine since I was a wee lass and my mother taped pieces of paper to my high chair.  I haven't been able to stop creating since.

I did the damn thing at 18.  Went to art school - got disenchanted - dropped out - and reinstated myself at a school with a more socially aware slant.  It was hard to get away from being selfish.  Especially when you are a brat in your early 20s.

Many moons passed.

And here I sit, in between the vaudville and the quiet places.  Still drawing.  Doing it for a living and I feel pretty lucky - though it could always pay more ;-)

Today, I found a blog called THE ONLY MAGIC LEFT IS ART.

As I head back to life and back to reality this week (my final quarter starts Friday) I'm trying to think about anything but.  This vacation has been awesome but a little less like a vacation and more like running around with my head cut off.  So seeing these little pokes at certainty make me smile.

For those of you in San Francisco:

The world-famous graffiti artist Banksy is in town this week (who knows for how long). So far he's hit China town, the Mission and the Haight (no specifics tho :(. These posts will probably be up for a VERY limited time. So just like Pokemon - you gotta catch em while you can.

I first learned of this artist in my formative years during my under-grad. His clever, satirical pieces are always political and always heartfelt. Here are some pics of his recent posts while in San Francisco.

Meet my new favorite fashion illustrator Kris Atomic.



This lovely lass hales from the Camberwell College of Arts in London. She photographs, paints, loves kitties and is all around pretty interesting. Here are a handful of my favorite things from recent posts. I think it paints a pretty good picture of Kris. But you don't have to take my word for it. I always find myself pleasantly surprised to stumble upon contemporary, young, creative and innovative artists. These are some amazing photos of really tender and unexpected moments. I love the way the photos make you feel as though you can hear the person talk, or their breath as the picture is taken. I encourage you to take a look at his site.
