will-o'-the-wisp

Sometimes known as ignis fatuus, the will-o'-the-wisp is a foggy light sometimes seen over swamps or marshes. It's produced when organic matter decays (or the "oxidation of phosphine and methane"). Through-out the years it has been the cause for many legends and folklore. It is said to be supernatural beings that are trying to lead traveler's astray. In other tales it marks the spot where treasure is buried.

Spidey

If you live in New York City you may also want to check this out.

Currently at American Museum of Natural History they are exhibiting a giant rug. Why is this rug so special you ask? Oh, because it's made from spider silk!

That's right ladies and gentlemen more than a million (not so little) female Golden Orb spiders graciously donated their silk for this textile. French Missionary, Jacob Paul Camboué created a hand-driven machine that would accommodate 24 spiders at once. It withdrew 2.4 lbs. of spider silk without harming a single little lady (aww).

It took over 4 years, 12 people and over a million spiders to produce this rug.

Check this thing out while it's still there - it's pretty amazing.
