Sketchbook
I started the day looking for "cat fashion" (that's right) and ended up here - ain't the internet grand?
"Sketchbook is a new quarterly magazine that showcases established and emerging creative talents in fashion, design and culture with a focus on features, photography and illustration" (Sketchbook magazine About).
I started with the "Fashion Blogger Issue" (obvies!) and was hooked from there. Mentioning blogging legends like Diane Pernet to a how-to-be the next Perez always sprinkled with the best in fashion illustration (drool) - I poured through the pages like syrup on waffles (gluten free of course!).
Also brilliantly articulated in this issue was MYKROMAG's creator Abdul Lagerfield (note to self - divine legendary name relating to fashion icon), and blogspot's little feathered friend Lulu and Your Mom (great name).
Although the mag did make me feel like I needed to be about 20 to break into this scene for realsies - age fail - I ate it up like those waffles previously mentioned (mmm hungie).
Anywuzzles, check this piece out. It may just save your blog - or your boredom.

Bill Cunningham We Love You
We get dressed.
We get into rutines. We put on what's comfortable, put on what's clean.
Sometimes its a struggle to portray the self that we want to be.
Not the complacent, creative repose of the cookie-cutter generation.
Sometimes it's hard to remember that we are innovative - we are creative
and, above all, we don't have to be rich to dress exceptionally.
Looking good is not a priveldge.
It's a challenge to be marvelous within our means and personal style.
Watching Bill Cunningham New York,
a new documentary about the father of street style photography,
reminded me of all that.
What a breath of fresh air!
"fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life" - Bill Cunningham
I highly reccommend seeing it while it is still in theaters.

Cornfed
I get stuck in a food rut sometimes. I tend towards the same items whenever I browse the aisles of the market: avocado, kale, walnuts, some sort of grain... And though I love those items and could eat them all the time, I long for something new. Sometimes the answer is so obvious you hit yourself in the head and say "duh!!" Last night I had a deliciously simple meal consisting of cornbread, maple baked beans and sauteed greens. Can you say yumm?
Cornbread often is teaming with wheat flour (a three to one ratio usually). BUT I found a recipe that requires just corn meal - hope you enjoy!
Cornbread
2 c corn meal (medium ground)
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 3/4 c milk sub (I used soy)
1 tbsp white or apple cider vinegar
2 tbsp vegenaise
1/8 - 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
Preheat oven to 450˚ F and oil a 9x9 baking dish. Measure out the milk sub and pour the vinegar in it and set aside to curdle. Sift together corn meal, salt, cayenne and baking soda & powder. Stir in curdled milk sub and vegenaise. Pour batter into baking dish and heat for 35 minutes or until deep golden brown.
I served this with regular ol' baked beans (which I sauteed in 1 tbsp of maple syrup, a pinch of salt and about a quarter of an onion diced) and rainbow chard (steamed with a little olive oil and bragg's liquid aminos).
Lemme know what you think!

Ol' Black Magic
Lately my style guide has consisted of the phrase: Witch from the 70s.
The look is two parts hippie, one part goth
and one part renaissance fair.
and one part renaissance fair.
And these photos make me want to channel my inner Stevie reeeel bad,
or just sell all my sh*t and go on the road
selling jewelry out of my trunk like a gypsy.
selling jewelry out of my trunk like a gypsy.
yeah, what? I said it.
I think I'm gonna meet my future now and get a black embroidered caftan... Report to follow...
