Boom Swagger Swagger...

What I really like about Swagger NYC is that you can not only see street style direct from the streets of New York, you can also buy facsimiles of said looks.  Awesome huh?

I also appreciate that they show people of color and when I say people - I also mean not just cute young skinny girls!  They also feature boys and people of all shapes and sizes.  Way to go Swagger!

Fashion Brownies

So in efforts to provide less clutter on the interweb with useless blog entries, I've decided to combine today's memo into one food and fashion extravaganza (slash plain ol' blog entry)!  Peppering a recipe with my favorites from fashion week thus far:

Fashion week (as you know) started Thursday because like you and I - Fashion knows that Monday's suck and clearly should not be the beginning of the week.  In celebration of this blessed event I've decided to bake some brownies.  Cause nothin' says fashion week like mowing down a whole plate of adorable gluten free / vegan brownies.  I know right?!

Mini Cupcake Brownies

1/2 c canola oil
3/4 c + 2 tbsp garbanzo bean flour
1/4 c potato starch
2 tbsp arrowroot
1 c sugar (or 10 tbsp + 2 tsp agave nectar)
2 1/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp xanthan gum
1 tsp salt
1/2 c unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 c unsweetened apple sauce
2 tbsp vanilla extract
1/2 c brewed coffee or hot water
2 c vegan / gluten-free chocolate chips (such as Tropical Source)

Preheat oven to 325˚ F.  Mini-cup up 3 dozen mini-muffin cups (say that 3 times fast - yeah, it wasn't hard for me either).

In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, potato starch, arrowroot, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, xanthan gum, salt and cocoa powder.  In a large bowl mix together apple sauce, canola oil and vanilla.

Slowly add flour mixture, stirring to combine.  Stir in coffee or water until it forms a batter.  Fold in chocolate chips.

Place 1 tbsp batter into each prepped muffin cup.  Place in oven for 12 - 15 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.  Let cool on wire rack.  Tune into Style.com or the Cut and go at those muffins like you're LL in front of the paparazzi.

New York Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week started this morning bright and early at 9am (not really that early at all).  And unlike my usual sites (Style.com, New York Magazine, etc.) I'm going to be checking up on the Guardian UK.  It's a live report that updates every minute (complete with pictures)(See Below - that's from this morning!).

I'll also be peeping WWD's live twitter feed (via my twitter app - for folks in finals :-(

Celebration Anniversary Cat

So I know what you're thinking: "Well screw me sideways and call it Tuesday! Here's another cray AMAZE cat post!" Yeah, me too. Mee too.

I was doing my daily rummage through the inter-nets and I found this cat fancy post from good ol' Refinery 29. The post documented the annual cat fashion show held by the North Shore Animal League. The party was also a celebration of the birthday of Algonquin Hotel resident Matilda - Awwww! My cat-lady heart skipped a beat for these photos - a veritable who's-who of all the up and coming cats of New York, I'm sure:

the owls are NOT what they seem

Lately I've been crushing on the owls are not what they seem.

These cute chicas, with the rhyming names Joelle and Noel, have been writing a look-diary blog for a little over a year. I am consistently inspired by their wardrobe and their creative pictures. Not only are they super cute to look at, they also sew, altering their finds and creating accessories to fit their ensembles.

I also like their honest and humble approaches to their "look of the day" type of blog. Often times you find that school-of-blog to be shallow and completely self-obsessed. But not these compadres! In a recent post Joelle even conceded to being self-conscious about her thighs (I know the feeling gurl) even though she looked totally adorable.

I also really appreciate the fact that they aren't baby girls. These ladies are grown-ups and their style shows the elegance of someone who is experienced. I often find myself sifting through Lookbook only to find every person on the page to be under 20! As a lady approaching her 30's it's nice to know being fashionable doesn't have to mean being 17.

The owls are not what they seem also make me think of my possible future life. Sitting on a stoop in Park Slope with Barton - enjoying the sweltering heat while sipping an iced latte - yummm :)
