Cat Cafe
Yet another reason why Japan is cooler than the US...
Sea of Shoes recently visited the lovely city of Tokyo as a fashion tourist. Amidst her purchasing she set aside time to stop in at a "Cat Cafe."
A Cat Cafe is sort of like a regular cafe but it's filled with cats. You can go there, purchase some caffeinated beverages and an hour's worth of pettin' kitties. Once you remove your shoes and wash your hands of course ;)
Over a dozen of these cafes have opened since 2008. Some with as many as 25 felines on the employ.
Heaven? My thoughts exactly.
Read more about Cat Cafes here.

I'm hoping some lucky so-and-so will read this and get the hint: American's would be less grumpy if they could pet cats and drink espresso. At least in my humble opinion.

Dear Me (of the Future)
"The worst enemy of creativity
is self-doubt"
wrote Sylvia Plath.
Do you ever wish you could remind yourself of something in the future?
Like:
remember to be curious
•
nap more
•
create often
•
buy toilet paper
•
etc. etc.
Now you can! Through a wonderful little site called Futureme.org you can send letters to yourself (or another person) in the future. Most often these emails are set aside for momentous occasions but it's always nice to get little reminders too. Big things that fit somewhere small.
That's what she said.

Two Ladies from Austin
So Barton & I's friend arrived today from Austin, Texas. In her honor I figured I'd post something from her current homeland. Here are two crafty kittens from where she now hails:
This video makes reupholstery look easy (ish). I also feel like my life is now incomplete without a staple gun. I used to have like 4! What happened?!? Merrrr... Anywaybles, I now feel inspired to recreate some furnishings. Preferably some sans bedbugs... Which I think is the real danger of getting used furniture.

Charlotte Can Wait
My girl crush Charlotte Gainsbourg recorded this song with Beck. They are both too hot.
Recently I heard some disturbing bits about Charlotte Gainsbourg and her bits. Some of those bits ain't nice. Apparently I wouldn't want to see Antichrist. And I can live with that.

the owls are NOT what they seem
Lately I've been crushing on the owls are not what they seem.
These days you can also catch these girls guest-blogging for live.love.loft or simply peep their blog.
These cute chicas, with the rhyming names Joelle and Noel, have been writing a look-diary blog for a little over a year. I am consistently inspired by their wardrobe and their creative pictures. Not only are they super cute to look at, they also sew, altering their finds and creating accessories to fit their ensembles.
I also like their honest and humble approaches to their "look of the day" type of blog. Often times you find that school-of-blog to be shallow and completely self-obsessed. But not these compadres! In a recent post Joelle even conceded to being self-conscious about her thighs (I know the feeling gurl) even though she looked totally adorable.
I also really appreciate the fact that they aren't baby girls. These ladies are grown-ups and their style shows the elegance of someone who is experienced. I often find myself sifting through Lookbook only to find every person on the page to be under 20! As a lady approaching her 30's it's nice to know being fashionable doesn't have to mean being 17.
The owls are not what they seem also make me think of my possible future life. Sitting on a stoop in Park Slope with Barton - enjoying the sweltering heat while sipping an iced latte - yummm :)
Here are a handful of my favorite owl pics in no particular order:

For the Love of Mixtapes
I used to have this knitting business/project/desire to make projects (accessories mostly) out of completely recycled materials. Included in these were knitted mixtape cuffs, pouches and headbands. But Sonic Fabric took that idea and RAN:
These are 50% recorded audio cassette tape and 50% colored thread woven accessories! You can even run a tape-head over them and hear the recordings! As is evident here.
These would totally make the perfect gift for your DJ mom.
That's a thing right?

Well, to tie it all together: I DESIRE to finish my Bf's Mom's shawl that I've been knitting for like EVER. That's my summer desire :)
Theme Week!
I'm making an executive decision.
The theme: summer desires...
If we're knee deep in school work, what else will keep us motivated?
Single picture entries. Quick explanations.
GO.
In this day and age, one would not be caught dead without sunscreen, and a hat and even a parasol. Our gorgeous Emily had all of those things at her craft fair this past weekend, and it made me wonder how I'm going to possibly travel without a parasol this summer... But how to transport it?
So? Any ideas?
What else makes you think of summer?
love you, mean it.
