Clever Nettle
I recently happened across this lovely little vintage shop on etsy. I really love the aesthetic - it reminds me of the short lived boutique in Berkeley called HobbyHorse.
Clever Nettle is a dreamy Portland based vintage & art shop. I fell in love immediately - wanting to pick out all the skirts for my fall wardrobe. Velvet, watercolor paintings, breezy frocks and muted colors. Here are a smidgen of my favorites currently featured in the shop:
You can follow this little lady via her blog or simply just take a peep at her shop here.

Tiny Steps
Dear you,
My boyfriend and I haven't been able to see each other too much lately because of my hectic schedule so we try and take time to have a little walk each week. I call it a mini-date. This is documentation of our walk today and the lovely surprises it held.
I fell in love with today.
I like taking the time to notice my surroundings <3

September Essentials: From Emily
Fall is my favorite season. I miss living in Michigan and watching the leaves change almost overnight. I miss the satisfying crunch they make under your feet. I also miss sweater weather, though I suppose living here it's always sweater weather. That being said, here are some things I'm picking out for fall this year - perhaps you'd like to try a few for yourself?
- Purple - pretty much anything awesome.
From eyeshadow to denim purple haze is where its at.
- Lace Tanktop/ Bodysuit
I bought mine from Urban but I've also seen super cute ones at Target and H&M.
- Bowties
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Bowties are amazing.
- Layered Bracelets
Break out the nostalgia and the twine and make your own. They are that much cooler when they don't come from F21. You can also find some awesome ones on Etsy.
- Kitten Heels
These are coming back in a BIG way and honestly, a lot more comfortable to walk in. Try them with chunky grey socks layered over tights for colder weather.
- Trousers
You're a classy lady - it's about time you had some trousers. Why not march yourself down to the thrift store and buy yourself a pair. They are that much better if they are about 3" too short for you ;)

September Battle Royale
THE SEPTEMBER ISSUE BATTLE:
Harper's Bazaar vs. Vogue
It's no question that the best thing Vogue has going for it is Grace Coddington. But this infamous September Issue is no exception. Touting such highlights as two Coddington spreads (one favoring the lovely, yet spoiled, Betty Draper), an article about the upcoming Fashion's Night Out (Sept. 10th), and ummm... an article on Halle Berry? The similarly priced Harper's Bazaar is far superior.
The Sept. Issue of HB includes my boyfriend Marc Jacobs as interpreted by Calvin Klein, a pictoral homage to 1930s fashion icon Daisy Fellowes, hilarious different ways Rachel Zoe could DIE, a comparison shoot of Jenny Aniston as Barbara Streisand (she's a Sadie) and an adorb's "making of" mockumentary starring Ted Danson and Jason Schwartzman. If you care about Ralph Lauren - there's an article in there about him too. So, yeah. Just spend your $4.99 on HB. You won't be sorry and you won't have to suffer through 800 pages of ads before you get to any articles. OOoooh snap...

Break It Down
I'm addicted to This American Life.
For those of you who haven't heard the show before. It's a radio program on NPR that tells stories about average people. Ira Glass (see that sexy hunk above), the show's host, describes it as "each week we pick and theme and bring you different stories based on that theme." One particular favorite of mine is called Numbers. I will let the blurb speak for itself:
"Numbers lie. Numbers cover over complicated feelings and ambiguous situations. In this show [This American Life brings you] stories of people trying to use numbers to describe things that should not be quantified."
I've been thinking a lot in terms of numbers lately. I know none of it matters. They are just numbers. What I should be focussing on is the now. What's happening right in front of me. But instead I'm getting stressed out trying to get everything done. Between school, working at three different places and planning a wedding - I'm getting caught up in numbers.
So today I listened to this.
